How are you, really?
Besides the insane stress that comes with applications, soooo good! I am finally happy again.
What is the greatest change you’ve made this year?
Living without my family for three weeks in a foreign country this summer! One of the greatest experiences of my life. I made so many new friends and memories. It definitely changed the way I felt about living alone (I used to be terrified of leaving home for college).
What is something you hope never changes?
My love for music. It’s been such a huge part of my life for so long.
When do you feel most capable?
When people compliment me on my work. I’m a huge people pleaser (which may be leaning towards more of a fault for me) so when someone tells me they like my art or my writing, I’m over the moon.
How do you nurture yourself?
By sitting in the white chair in my room reading. My room is my safe haven! Over the years I’ve filled it with trinkets, records, books, pictures, you name it. Whenever I go to my room I feel like I’ve plugged myself in after a long day like a phone.
How do you nurture others?
Words of affirmation and gift giving have always been the way I show people I care, which I hope nurtures them.
Is there anything you wish you had said but didn’t?
Plenty. Sometimes I feel like my mouth moves faster than my head. The majority of my mistakes tend to be on text though. I’ll write out a super long angry paragraph that I end up not meaning AND it’s something I would have never said in person.
What is something that turns you on?
Having the same music taste as me.
What is something that turns you o=?
Disrespect to waiters, cashiers, etc. If you’re rude to random strangers I can’t imagine how rude you’d be to me.
When was the last time you walked away from something that no longer served you?
A friendship very recently, around 2 weeks ago. It feels like a weight has been lifted.
How often do you feel you achieve balance?
Not often during the school year. My workload unfortunately always has to take priority over the things I love to do. However, in the summer I feel the most balanced and like myself.
What is one risk you took that resulted in reward?
Going to therapy.
When do you feel most overwhelmed?
In the fall, mainly because of my sport; but this past year, adding in college applications to the equation didn’t help. Every fall I feel pretty drained and unhappy, but I know how to combat this.
How do you move forward?
By taking one day at a time. I’ve found recently how well this works; if I get super overwhelmed, I can now break things down into smaller, manageable pieces.
What is something that will always make you laugh?
A video of me and my sister from when we were 3 and 4; it’s me and her fighting over who got to say hi to daddy in the video first (I won). It always makes me giggle and the whole dynamic in the video is just a perfect representation of our relationship.
What is something that will always make you cry?
Thinking about the things my mom has been through.
Have you ever been betrayed?
Yes. Men have tended to be the main culprits.
What is your greatest temptation?
To slump back into my depressive episodes. I’ve grown so much as a person since I’ve overcome the depression that took over my life, but sometimes all I want to do is take that easy step backwards.
What is one thing you feel is missing from your current life?
A relationship. It sounds so silly I know, but I just have this intense loneliness that I feel a boyfriend would cure. I wish I didn’t think like this, but I do.
What is one thing you can’t get enough of?
Reading, reading, READING! I feel like people my age have placed a weird stereotype around reading a lot but that’s ok, to each their own.
BONUS: Tell me something good.
I am alive!
